The BackupPilot Lite is ideal for smaller organisations. The compact unit comes equipped with 500Gbytes of disk storage as standard, and has the capacity to cope with multiple incremental and full backups for this size of business. Multiple units can be cost effectively deployed to increase capacity and resilience.
The larger BackupPilot Plus comes equipped with 1TByte of disk storage as standard. This capacity can be increased at a later date using the removable caddy system.

The BackupPilot Lite and BackupPilot Plus solution provides all the necessary hardware and software for the backup process to work. It combines high-speed local disk backup (at up to gigabit per second speeds), with optionally linking over LAN or WAN networks to save further copies of data physically distant from the main server(s).

When backing up to a second unit, this device should ideally be as physically distant and separate as possible from the first unit, for maximum protection in the event of fire or flood. The second unit may be located at the same office complex but perhaps in a separate building or on a different floor, but connected via high speed LAN.

Alternatively, or even additionally, copies of data may be transmitted over broadband internet links to other units installed at one or multiple remote sites, which could include a branch office, a commercial datacentre, or even a staff member’s house equipped with suitably fast ADSL internet connectivity.

Typically, the BackupPilot is configured to send backups to a remote site using internet bandwidth that is unused overnight - and doesn’t disrupt busy daytime internet activities.

Restoration of data is straight-forward, using the BackupPilot control interface.
This process is far simpler and quicker than attempting to find firstly the correct tape and then the correct files to restore. With BackupPilot the likelihood is that data required for restoral is held locally so the restore process is easy and quick.
