CachePilot provides intelligent caching allowing schools to maximise the use of the available bandwidth. Once installed, it reduces the number of requests to any one website by automatically updating the most frequently used content during less busy times.
- Teachers can pre-cache web sites they wish to use later in the day or later in the week. No more worries about whether the web is up or down - that site is ready on the cache. - CachePilot can be set up to update cached sites automatically - every day, weekly or monthly, day or night, weekday or weekend, so you are always using the most up to date version. - Your school web site and any online subscription content can be mirrored on CachePilot, and updated automatically. This means you use no bandwidth when using this content, even if it is on every PC in the school. Even passwords are stored to save delays. Your content provider can also use the Cache to update content or send out new content for you to see. - Media rich teaching and learning content and subscription sites can be preloaded onto CachePilot. Just subscribe and access is automatic. For London Grid all CachePilots have Espresso content preloaded. - The use of video content to support teaching and learning was one of the key features teachers were told broadband would make possible. Most have discovered even with broadband, networking online video is disappointing. CachePilot will deliver cached video to a whole suite, simultaneously. - For schools with small peer to peer networks, delivering CD Rom content across all machines is a problem and adding a server is expensive. CachePilot saves the day with its ability to store a copy of each CD and, just like a server, deliver the content to all PCs. - CachePilot also offers web filtering if you need it - a basic 'allowed' and 'not allowed' list is provided free - more sophisticated filtering is already set up in the unit, released when you take out a subscription with the service provider. - All sorts of content will run on CachePilot, and it will store any of the content packages on offer from the any of the Learning Grids. Our content partners include all the leading digital content providers. For a full list of partners : Click Here ! CachePilot is big and it's fast: Standard specification offers 200Gb Hard drive, and 1Gb RAM. All in a box no larger than a laptop computer. Other manufacturers offer cheaper packages with smaller, slower drives, but over time, these will fill up faster and operate more slowly.
