NetPilot Remote FAQs

Q: How does the NetPilot Remote differ from a NetPilot Lite unit (the next model up in Equiinet's range)?

A: The Remote is designed to be a secure VPN and Firewall device. The NetPilot Lite has more processing power and is better suited to handling UTM services such as Anti Virus, Anti Spam, and URL Filtering all at one time. To check out all the differing models and Options : Click Here!

Q: Can I receive email from my ISP and then forward through the NetPilot Remote to a separate MS Exchange email server siting behind the Remote?

A: Yes.

Q: What is the part number for NetPilot Remote?

A: 1026/300001 NetPilot Remote - Dual Ethernet (for ADSL) - £495

Q: What UTM services work with the NetPilot Remote?

A: Only the URL filtering and advanced firewall. If you require UTM security look at NetPilot Lite or NetPilot Plus.

Q: What VPN functionality does the Remote possess?

A: A full range of VPN offerings including IPSec, OpenVPN, and ability to interface with OpenVPN and Safenet IPSec VPN clients.
Note: With IPSec you will need ISP services with fixed IP addresses. If you have VPN clients requiring remote access into the NetPilot Remote - you will need both fixed IP addresses and a non-dialled connection for the NetPilot Remote. e.g. ADSL with NONAT.

Q: How many VPN clients are included with NetPilot Remote?

A: OpenVPN clients are unrestricted - you can freely use as many as you need.

Q: I need to relay email via my VPN through my central site NetPilot, rather than directly to my ISP. Is this possible?

A: Yes - but you need to ensure you are using a service with a fixed IP address on your NetPilot Remote. The central NetPilot needs to be configured with this fixed IP address as an allowed relaying node.

Q: Does NetPilot Remote work with ADSL?

A: Yes. A suitable ADSL modem is additionally required.

Q: You keep mentioning the Remote is designed to work with other bigger NetPilots which would be located at central offices, but I only have one small office in my organisation, is the Remote suitable for me?

A: Yes, the NetPilot Remote can operate as a connectivity and firewall solution.
However we would recommend NetPilot Lite as a secure UTM based solution for single site small businesses.

Q: Does the Remote support NAT-T, so I can access its LAN from behind another firewall?

A: Yes, NetPilot Remote does support NAT-T.
